In Maharashtra, the process of getting a Learner's License is very simple and straightforward. With most of forms and procedure available online at the Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Department's website, candidates can get a Learner's License without any hassles. As per the road rules in Maharashtra, a person must hold a valid Learner's License before he can get a permanent DL. Who can apply

Any person after completion 18 years is eligible to apply for a Driving license (Learner/Permanent).
Any person after attaining the age of 16 yrs is eligible to apply for license for motorcycle without gear engine capacity not exceeding 50cc with written consent of parent/guardian.
The eligible age to apply for license to drive a transport vehicle in any public place is 20 yrs. No person shall be granted a learner's license to drive a transport vehicle unless he has held a driving license to drive a light motor vehicle for at least one year.

Test Procedure / Points

  • Person has to apply online for obtaining Learner's License and give Preliminary Test
  • On the day of appointment, he has to go to the RTO where he resides
  • Submit required documents
  • Give a test
  • If the person answers 60% of the questions correctly, he is considered to have passed the test. If the person fails, he may reapply by re-booking online appointment.
