You must first own a driving license to legally drive your motor vehicle in India. The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 makes it mandatory for every vehicle owner to hold a driving license to freely move his vehicle on Indian roads. In the state of Manipur too, it is important for an individual to hold a driving license to be able to ply his vehicle in public areas of the state. In the state of Manipur, the Regional Transport Authority has been shouldered with the responsibility of issuing driving licenses to the citizens of the state. Eligibility Criteria for Obtaining a Driving License

  • To apply for a motorcycle with an engine capacity not exceeding 50cc, the candidate should be aged 16 years or above.
  • To apply for a motorcycle with gear, the candidate should be aged 18 years or above.
  • To apply for a heavy motor vehicle DL, the candidate should be aged 20 years or above.
  • The candidate should apply for a driving license in Manipur after 30 days from the date of issuance of the learner’s license.
  • Driving license is given only on the basis of the class of vehicle for which the learner’s license is availed for.
  • The candidate should be aware of all the traffic rules and regulations.

Driving License Test Procedure

To obtain a driving license in Manipur, an applicant will have to pass the driving license (DL) test which will be conducted in presence of a motor vehicles inspector. The applicant will be allowed to appear for the test, only after 30 days from the date of issuance of the learner’s license. The test is conducted to test the driving skills of the applicant and to understand whether he is well aware of the traffic rules and the vehicle he is driving. The applicant will also be asked several questions related to road safety. If the applicant fails the test, then he can reappear for the test after a period of 7 days. If the applicant fails the test on 3 consecutive occasions, then he will be allowed to reappear for the test only after a period of 60 days.
